General: I’m getting low connection speed with VPN. What to do?
We provide the maximum possible connection speed for the current conditions. However, the conditions for your connection may vary because of the current workload on the selected VPN server and the distance from you to the selected VPN server. Also, there is always a chance of slowdown because of your ISP throttling VPN protocols. We cannot control these circumstances.
So, as a suggestion, try to connect to a several servers that are geographically closer to you, and check the performance.
Also, if you’ve enabled KeepSolid Wise, it might decrease the speed. Please, try to switch to a different VPN protocol in the Settings of the VPN Unlimited app, and check the performance again.
General: If you come across the message ‘You have exceeded the allowed number of devices on your account’

If you want to add a new device, first you need to delete one of already registered devices. You can manage your account personally from your KeepSolid office at https://my.keepsolid.com/
Please go to Devices—here you can see the list of all your devices, and manage them manually.
Also, you can buy additional slots for your devices at Extensions, or right in the app through the Purchases tab.

2. Check your IP address
If VPN Unlimited error no internet connection is displayed on your computer, you can start by checking your IP address for information such as your country or city, next to the location you selected when you connected with VPN Unlimited.
If it shows a location near you, it means you’re not connected to a server location.
Disconnect and try to connect again and see if the error goes away.
3. Check your internet connection
You can try to access a website without VPN Unlimited being on and see if it works. If you cannot access the internet even when the VPN is disconnected, then you need to check your connection for issues.
You can also check with your internet service provider whether it is a problem from their end.
4. Change the protocol
Your device connects to VPN Unlimited servers using VPN protocols, and mostly the default one is the UDP protocol, which is usually blocked in some countries.
You can try to change the protocol, which also helps you achieve faster connection speeds, but see if this helps restore the internet connection.
If you want better performance, choose the OpenVPN TCP first, then L2TP, and finally PPTP protocols in that order. However, most VPN service providers do not recommend using PPTP unless it is very necessary to do so, as it offers little security compared to the other protocols.
5. Manually configure DNS settings
Your computer may not automatically connect to VPN Unlimited’s DNS servers, so you need to configure it with VPN Unlimited DNS servers’ IP addresses.
By manually configuring your computer with other DNS server addresses, you will be able to connect to the internet with faster speeds, and even access sites with geo-restrictions on their content.
Here’s how to do it in Windows:
1. Open Network Connections settings
- Type ncpa.cpl and click OK
- In the Network connections window, find your usual connection, either LAN or Wireless network connection
- Right-click the connection and select Properties
2. Set the DNS server addresses
- Double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) or just Internet Protocol
- Select Use the following DNS server addresses
- Type these Google DNS server addresses
Preferred DNS server 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS server 8.8.4.4
- If Google DNS is blocked, try the following:
Neustar DNS Advantage (156.154.70.1 and 156.154.71.1) enter and press OK
Level3 DNS (4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2) enter and press OK
Once you have set the open network connections and DNS server addresses, you can then set the VPN Unlimited DNS settings based on the instructions or prompts.
6. Error 809
This error is usually displayed as The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established. By default, Windows does not support IPSec NAT-T security associations to servers located behind a NAT device.
Because of the manner in which NAT devices translate network traffic, you may experience unexpected results when you put a server behind the NAT device and use the IPSec NAT-T environment.
Here’s how to fix this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesPolicyAgent
- Right-click and create a new DWORD (32-bit) value
- Add AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule and save.
- Modify the new entry and change Value Data from 0 to 2.
- Restart your computer and test the connection
If you still cannot connect, try it with OpenVPN TCP / UDP protocols. Did this fix the VPN Unlimited error no internet connection? If not, try the final solution below.
7. Manually configure proxy settings
A proxy server is used to hide your real location so you can access the internet and other sites that would otherwise be blocked.
If you have internet connection issues, it is possible that it has been set to use a proxy server (a proxy is a go-between that is in the middle of your computer and VPN provider).
The first step is to make sure your browser is set to auto-detect proxy or no proxy, then use the instructions to manually configure proxy settings for your browser.
Here’s how to disable proxy settings for Internet Explorer:
- Go to the Connections tab
- Click LAN settings
- Uncheck all the options except Automatically detect settings and click OK for all
VPN Unlimited errors can take many forms, including Protocol connection error VPN Unlimited, VPN Unlimited no internet connection, VPN Unlimited not connecting to server, VPN Unlimited connection profile missing, however, you should be able to fix them by following the steps above.

Common VPN Problems and How to Solve them without Calling Customer Support
If there’s something strange with your VPN, who you gonna call? Well, before contacting Ghostbusters or a VPN provider’s call center for that matter, you might first want to take a look at this piece. KeepSolid VPN Unlimited team has collected the most popular questions and requests from our customer service department, like why is my VPN not working, why VPN won’t stay connected, and other common VPN problems. Each item will be complemented with the solutions to help you solve them in no time!
- VPN not connecting!
- VPN displays some error message!
- I have paid for my subscription and still can’t use VPN!
- Certain websites don’t work with a VPN on!
- My VPN doesn’t work or works bad!
- Email is not working while connected to VPN!
1. VPN Not Connecting!
Obviously, this is the most common and specific (not really) request. There are literally hundreds of potential reasons for such problem, so we’ll only scratch a tip of the iceberg here. The #1 cause on our list is trying to connect to public WiFi. Every so often, such hotspots request users authorize in their system before using them. A user fails to realize this, and tries to establish a connection via VPN right after hooking into public WiFi – no wonder, it won’t work. Solution: check your internet connection without VPN first.
Now, sometimes public networks (or even whole countries) may decide to prohibit VPNs usage. They do this by blocking specific internet ports commonly used by VPN protocols. To avoid this, you can try changing protocols used by your VPN. However, VPN Unlimited has a much better solution for you – KeepSolid Wise. This is a technology that masks your VPN connection and allows to bypass the internet port blockade.
Another common reason for VPN connection disruption is your firewall. You see, it was originally designed to block traffic modification and tunnelling. Alas, this is exactly what VPNs are expected to do! So, big surprise, these two services rarely get along very well. And last but not the least, some users try to dual-wield numerous VPN apps on a single device at once. They rarely work together well, so always check if you enable one VPN at a time.
2. VPN Displays Some Error Message!
It would seem like a no-brainer that the best solution for this problem is to read the message text first, right? Well, you see, sometimes such messages are not too helpful, are undeveloped, or make little sense. That’s why we decided to cover two of the trivial ones. First and foremost, this can be a so-called expirator – a notification that your subscription period is over. If this is the case, just pay the fee.
The second case is a bit more tricky. Usually, VPN providers allow you to use their service on a limited amount of devices, with additional device slots sold separately. So if you see a notification that you’re out of device slots, the obvious step would be to buy more. However, sometimes a single device can be duplicated in a VPN account (for example, after updating your operating system). So if you are sure that you can’t have run out of device slots, just check your account to see if there are any “clones”.
3. I Have Paid for my Subscription and Still can’t Use VPN!
So you’ve made your payment, and the VPN doesn’t work regardless? Congratulations, your problem’s solution is probably described here. We’ll begin with credit card payments. When using them, your payment processor may consider some of the payments suspicious. Either because of unusual volume of payments, or because of a strange amounts, or for any other reasons – your processor ties up your money and begins an investigation that can last up to a couple days. To fix this, you can either contact your bank or your VPN provider, or just wait until the processor completes the investigation.
The second reason is a bit similar to the extent that it can also only be solved by contacting the VPN provider. You see, sometimes when paying for iOS/macOS versions of some VPN apps, the market may bug out and “forget” to inform your VPN provider. So, in this situation the only fix is to inform them yourself. Finally, the problem may reside in a simple fact that the system has not yet completed its whole settlement procedures yet. If that’s the case, just wait a bit. And don’t forget to restart the app, since they usually update the subscription information only after that.
4. Certain Websites Don’t Work With a VPN On!
Most frequently, this happens due to the website blocking a specific server’s IP. As you know, public VPN servers are shared between the vast amounts of people, and some of them are somewhat unsporting. That’s why, when such a person’s IP gets blocked by a site, all users sharing the same server will also get blocked. The best solution for this is either choosing a different public server to use, or buying a Personal IP.
Another typical problem is users being unaware that some VPN servers prohibit the use of torrents. So if you need to use torrent services, once again, you’ll have to choose a VPN server that allows them. Finally, a less widespread issue is some users’ emails getting blocked because of suspicious activity. The cure is simple – just enter your email account with VPN disabled and confirm that the activity was legit.
5. My VPN Doesn’t Work or Works Bad!
Once again, this is the problem of a thousand reasons. But a common user is more likely to face some of these. First is a performance speed drop. Unfortunately, this is an inevitable price of extending the path that your traffic has to travel. Also, the more crowded a VPN server is, the slower your connection becomes. But if you feel that your speed with VPN drops even lower than usual, you may have faced ISP throttling. It’s a technique applied by some ISPs in order to cut VPN usage. In this case, just like with VPN blockade, to speed up VPN connection, you can either try other VPN protocols or simply turn on KeepSolid Wise. Switching protocols or changing VPN servers can also be a solution if you have no internet while being connected to VPN.
Another minor issue can occur if you are using an Android device. Turning power saving mode on, might cause VPN connection losses and disruptions. If that’s the case, simply turn the mode off.
6. Email is Not Working While Connected to VPN!
This issue might be caused by your mail client’s security settings. To get everything up and running again, try to follow below steps:
- If VPN is not yet connected, open KeepSolid VPN Unlimited app.
- Select a VPN server and connect to it.
- Open the web version of your email client and try sending an email from there.
- You should receive a message asking you to confirm it’s really you. When you do so, your mail client should work fine.
If you change VPN server, you may need to repeat these steps again.
Well, we hope that this article helps you find out solutions for any VPN problems you might have. However, don’t hesitate to contact our Customer service at [email protected] if you happen to have any questions!
